Further details have emerged of the Disney+ Mulan pricing structure that includes a $10 option to sit quietly and spend an hour imagining what the film is like.
“We recognise that $29.99 to watch a film on your own television set whilst sat on your own sofa in your own house might prove to be a premium experience for some people,” explained Disney exec Stewart James.
“So, with the $10 Mulan imagination extravaganza, we’ve opened it up to people who don’t have inherited wealth.”
When subscribers select the $9.99 pricing option, the screen will turn black and a Mulan logo will appear alongside a countdown timer.
They will then be free to imagine how the live action film uses spectacular imagery to tell a timeless story of bravery and heroism as a young woman disguises herself as a man and joins the army.
“You will be able to imagine great characters, huge battles and stunning scenery,” continued Mr James.
“In fact, in many ways this is the definitive way to experience Mulan as, although we’ve got some pretty spectacular battles in the picture, if you use your imagination, you can make those battles absolutely enormous with millions of people on each side and giant mechanical war dragons with lasers for eyes and spaceships full of robot alien-ninjas.
“We don’t have that in the film, but in your own imagination? That’s up to you.”
Mr Stewart also made it clear that the $10 option is only for one person and for only one hour.
“That’s correct. Please do not try and imagine what the film is like outside the Disney-mandated hour you’ve paid for. We have technology available to us to stop unauthorised imagined access to Disney product.”
There is also a special $5 ‘pocket money’ Disney+ Mulan pricing option for children to allow them to watch an exclusive, slightly longer trailer for the film and then gain access to a special website dedicated to selling Mulan merchandise.
