Deep-sea trawler fishing with Jennifer Lawrence

One of my favourite pictures of recent years is The Hunger Games. A terrifying dystopian vision of a nightmarish future. Apparently, it’s based on Arkansas.

The picture stars the outstanding Jennifer Lawrence and I was lucky enough to meet with this delightful young woman several years ago to discuss the possibility of her starring in a potential remake of 2001 I was considering.

I had an idea to keep the plot identical to Stanley’s classic original, but instead of setting my picture in space, I would have set it in the English industrial town of Doncaster. The picture is currently on hold but I was lucky enough to retain a great friendship with Jennifer.

In fact, I was deep-sea fishing with her only recently. I don’t think many people realise that Jennifer is a cod enthusiast and, more than anything else, she enjoys just getting away from Hollywood life on a simple trawler.

She was filleting a pollack on deck in the driving rain and she said to me ‘Sher, this is the real me, not that all that fame and fortune and glamour, just me on a trawler dealing with fish guts. One day, I’ll be to do this for a living.’

And you know what? I suspect she will, Jennifer is a very determined young woman who could achieve whatever goal in the world of deep-sea fishing she sets herself.

And I believe that if there’s anyone who has it in them to become a successful deep-sea trawlerman, it’s Jennifer Lawrence.
