It has been confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in the Gloucestershire market town of Tewkesbury around the time of the War of the Roses.
“If there is one question that we’ve consistently heard from our fans, it’s ‘why don’t you set GTA in a medieval English market town?’,” said producer Stewart James.
“Frankly, it’s hard to come up with an answer to that so, with this new GTA we’re doing it. It’s medieval Tewkesbury.”
The player will take on the role of Bodkin, a local urchin. When the Battle of Tewkesbury devastates the town, Bodkin sees his opportunity and launches into a life of crime.
“Early on, you’ll just be stealing apples and cheeking your betters,” explained Stewart.
“But as the story continues, you’ll find Bodkin gets involved in much more serious crimes such as hunting on the King’s land and not attending church regularly. There will even be the opportunity to take Bodkin down a witchcraft path, although that could see an early burning at the stake, unless you’re careful.”
As with previous entries in the series, the goal will be to build up a medieval crime empire in Tewkesbury until you are powerful enough to take on the local lord and take over the castle.
There will also be a multiplayer mode for the game in which players must work together to commit larger, more complex crimes such as high treason against the king or creating a powerful heresy against the church.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be known as Ye Grand Thefte Auto: Tewkesbury and should be out next year.
