Concern plans are underway for Oppenheimer West End musical

There is widespread concern across the film and entertainment world that plans may be at advanced stage for a West End musical based on Christopher Nolan’s hugely successful film Oppenheimer.

“I think it’s fair to say that it’s our biggest worry right now,” explained Stewart James of West End Watch, a group that monitors the effects to society of West End Musicals based on films.

“We’re getting reports of private rehearsal rooms where groups of people can be heard singing ‘Robert Oppenheimer’ to the tune of Falco’s hit Rock Me Amadeus. Two hundred fedora hats have been ordered from a Chancery Lane outfitters, and Google searches for words that rhyme with ‘fission’ are up by 400%. It’s fair to say that we’re very worried.”

Mr Stewart believes the impact of an Oppenheimer musical would be sizeable.

“You can’t underestimate how bad it will be, ‘and finally’ news reports on ‘an atomic musical,’ people walking around singing songs with titles like ‘Ooo, Mr Strauss’ and ‘It’s All Gone Off,’ an atomic bomb blast interpreted through dance and, perhaps most terrifyingly of all, a film based on the musical based on the film.”

Mr Stewart’s team are monitoring the situation and have asked members of the public with information on a potential Oppenheimer musical to report it via a confidential hotline.

“It is in everyone’s interest to prevent an Oppenheimer musical,” he said.

“So please, if you have any information, report it and, together, we can prevent this from happening.”
