A wily commuter has used a standard delay on a Southern Rail train to watch the entire Godfather trilogy and DVD extras.
Al Keaton was travelling from Brighton to London Bridge and, as is typical, was delayed outside Gatwick Airport for ten hours one morning.
“The ten-hour delays are not untypical on Southern Rail,” confirmed Mr Keaton.
“Initially, I’d just have a rage-induced psychotic breakdown like most passengers, but then I thought I could use that time to do something productive.”
Mr Keaton tried a number of things to fill the time
“Oh yes, all sorts – one day I grew a full beard, another I made a three-course banquet for other passengers, then I constructed a lovely treehouse for my children.”
Ultimately though, Mr Keaton decided to use the time to watch films.
“I watched the complete Godfather collection while waiting at Gatwick Airport yesterday. Very good.
“People say that the final instalment is a disappointment, but I’m not sure, its certainly a lot better than three hours staring at the South Terminal.”
Mr Keaton plans to use Southern’s crippling delays to watch more films.
“The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I can fit that in. The complete works of Tarkovsky, that might take a couple of delays, and I’ll probably have a go at Seven Samurai as well.”
He will definitely not use the time to watch the Star Wars prequels, however.
“God no, frankly the rage-induced psychotic breakdown would be preferable.”
