Legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood has lost one of the characteristics that set him apart from other actors after a quick visit to his local optometrist.
Eastwood, who is famous for portraying the anonymous anti-hero in Sergio Leone’s brilliant ‘Spaghetti Western’ trilogy, and also someone who was mates with a monkey or some nonsense like that in that other film, was prescribed glasses having never had an eye test before in his life.
Iris Wright, the senior dispensing optician at Glasses-4-U in Los Angeles, explained, “This was a classic case of an elderly gentleman assuming his eyesight was fine but never actually having had them checked out.
“When he came in and fixed me with a silent, menacing glare through those narrow eyelids, I knew there was something critically wrong with his vision.
“It turns out he is rather short-sighted, so I was happy to prescribe him glasses to improve his distance vision, which resolved the issue immediately. He now no longer peers at strangers as though about to challenge them to pistol duel at dawn, and because the glasses are fitted with reactive lenses he will be able to see his adversary even outside in the sunshine.”
Eastwood’s agent, Larry Callaghan, was initially disappointed with the loss of his client’s trademark but concluded, “He may have lost his squinted stare, but his tall, imposing, physical presence is still there, even when he’s using his zimmer frame.”
