Chris Hemsworth on the ‘really tough’ dental scenes in Extraction 2

Thor star Chris Hemsworth has been discussing Extraction 2, the sequel to his hit 2020 film Extraction.

He started by addressing the controversial lack of dentistry in the first film.

“I was very proud of picture,” he said.

“But I recognise that, for some people, to not have anyone visit the dentist in a film called Extraction is going to be disappointing. I mean, if it were me, I’d have been happy with some of the best action sequences seen on screen that year, I mean, that one-shot market fight? If it were me, I’d pay double for that alone. But that’s not good enough for you people and you want dentistry. Well FINE.”

After composing himself, he went on to explain what to expect from the new film

“This new picture is definitely much more dentist-based. My character, Tyler Rake, which is a perfectly normal name actually, I’m assigned to go into Somalia and rescue the beautiful daughter of a leading businessman.

“Exciting right? But I wake up on the day of the mission with a bit of a toothache, so I go to the dentist and he gives me a filling, but then the next day, if anything, it’s even more painful, so I go back to the dentist again and that’s when he realises what’s needed. Extraction.

“I’ll be honest, the extraction scenes were tough. Really tough. The whole shoot was gruelling, I spent a lot of time in that dentist chair with that guy’s hands in my mouth. But hopefully it’s be worth it, I think it’s as exciting and realistic a depiction of dentistry on the big screen ever seen.”

Extraction 2 will be released in 2023, and if there isn’t a promotional tie-in with Colgate then surely, it’s an opportunity missed.
