There have been calls for the BBC to respond to complaints about the BBC1 Christmas Day schedule by scraping the whole thing and just showing back to back Only Fools and Horses Christmas specials for the whole day instead.
The schedule was revealed in early December and was met with despair by people who don’t want to have to engage with their family and may find themselves forced to watch Call the Midwife.
“I’ll be honest, I’m concerned,” said father-of-three John Baird.
“Strictly, Mrs Brown’s Boys, Eastenders. I mean, at this rate I’m going to have to spend a serious amount of time with my family and you haven’t met my brother-in-law. I’ve heard the guy talk about his conservatory for two hours without pausing for a glass of water. It’s freakish.
“Normally, I can just have Doctor Who on and watch it over his shoulder while he’s going on about louvre blinds, but this year you’re telling me all I’ve got to work with is Call the Midwife.”
Mr Baird issued an impassioned plea.
“Just think about it. Think about the people who have to go through this, and please, please just cancel all that and show back to back Only Fools and Horses Christmas specials all today.
“It’ll at least give us chance to get through it all.”
The BBC have yet to respond, but ITV have been quick to point out that ITV4 will show nothing but Carry On films for the whole day.
Which is is considerably more fun than Call the Midwife.
