Following Thanos’s eradication of half of humanity in Avengers: Infinity War, rumours immediately began to circulate that the sequel will lean heavily on a time travel device to resolve the story.
However, there is an increasingly popular theory that, not only will time-travel feature narratively, but it will also form the basis of the release schedule and Avengers 4 could actually make its debut in the past, a year prior to Avengers: Infinity War in 2017.
“Right, the time-travel thing, it’s a bit Back to the Future, isn’t it?” said Avengers superfan and former British Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling.
“You’ve got Iron Man going back to the past and having to avoid that timeline’s Iron Man and, you know, invent rock and roll.
“We’ve seen it before, is what I mean.
“But, if they actually released the film in the past, then that would be really cool because you would just have this installment of the Avengers that came out a year or two ago that completely ties up the story.”
Mr Darling claimed that releasing a film in the past would have no bearing on its box office takings.
“No, definitely not. I mean, I’d have gone to see it, for sure. I go and see all Marvel films. They’d just suddenly have made more money in 2017 than they first thought is all.”
Should the rumours prove true and Avengers 4 is released in the past, it is expected that it could prove to be the biggest hit of 2017 as millions will have flocked to see the exciting conclusion of a film released a year afterwards.
