Darcey Bussell has announced she will be quitting Strictly Come Dancing on the same day that it was announced the current Dalai Lama has been admitted to hospital in India.
Therefore, it seems certain that Darcey Bussell has quit Strictly Come Dancing to become the new Dalai Lama.
According to Tibetan Buddhist belief, the Dalai Lama identifies their own successor and on dying the Dalai Lama is reincarnated into that person.
It is likely that the current Dalai Lama identified Dame Darcey as his successor during the 2016 series of Strictly which was a huge overseas hit for the BBC.
Dame Darcey has, as far as is known, very little experience in either Buddhism or any kind of spiritual leadership, which seems to indicate that the role of Dalai Lama is changing somewhat and could, in the future, encompass as much ballet and modern dance as it does spiritual guidance.
There has been no official comment from Dame Darcey about her dramatic career change, so it is currently unknown if she plans to fly to Tibet to take on her new role or if she will act as the spiritual leader to the Tibetan people from her luxury home in South London.
Although the career move is an unusual one, Dame Darcey has always proven successful throughout her career as either ballet dancer, dancing show judge, or television presenter, so there is no reason to believe she will receive anything less than a ‘10’ for her spiritual leadership of the Tibetan people.
