Ubisoft have announced that new game Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok will be their most ambitious yet, following a character from the dawn of the Viking Age to its conclusion several hundred years later in real-time.
The previous game Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey was considered to be an epic with a play time that stretched to some fifteen months, or nineteen if you played the DLC.
However, this new game’s play time will dwarf that.
Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok will begin at the very start of the Viking Age, in 787, on a Wednesday.
The player will then follow the main character – Jeff Viking – all the way through to the Battle of Largs in 1263.
It will take 476 years to complete the game.
“I think that Assassin’s Creed fans really demand something truly epic,” explained game director Jonathon Dumont.
“We new we’d made a long game with Odyssey, something that you’d need to take a sabbatical from work to really get the most of.
“But, with Ragnarok, we wanted to make a game that could be enjoyed by generations of fans.
“When you start this game, you are embarking on a quest that will only one day be completed by your great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great-grandson or daughter.
“It is a game that will consume the entirety of your life and of the lives of your descendants.”
Dumont added that DLC for the game will follow after release.
“Yeah, that’s really exciting,” he explained.
“It’ll follow a Viking who travels through time having a series of never-ending, randomly-generated adventures.
“What with the main quest and this DLC, we’re confident that players won’t really have seen everything it has to offer before the sun cools and the universe dies.”
It is expected there’ll be a sequel next year.
