Following a few years of rumours circulating about the release of a movie based on the hit game Tetris, the producers involved have reassured critics and fans of the game that with a bit of careful management and quick thinking, the cast, plot and script of the film will slot neatly into place.
With the initial announcement in 2014 that a film adaptation of the 1989 block sorting and stacking game was to be made, movie and gaming fans alike responded with derision, but as the project has gained momentum its producers have sought to allay fears.
Executive producer Martin Murphy spoke to reporters at Edinburgh Festival, saying “We are fully aware that making Tetris into a film is an ambitious undertaking, but honestly, it will be incredible when it all comes together.
“The game is based on quick thinking and even quicker reflexes to sort and stack blocks of various sizes, and the film stays true to this premise.
“If this sounds confusing or bewildering from a cinematic point of view then please rest assured that everything will fall into place. Quite literally.”
He added “I don’t want to give away any spoilers, naturally, but the film will be fast-paced and exciting, and at various points bits of it will flash and then vanish forever, leaving viewers constantly on the edge of their seats.
Film critic Gary Freeman responded in an online blog, noting “I have some reservations about this movie, despite reassurances from the producers that there will be no plot holes.
“However, it does look set to have the most diverse cast, with actors of all shapes and sizes playing the blocky characters.
“And you’re sure to be humming the soundtrack for weeks afterwards.”
