Amazon have revealed a little more about their mysterious Lord of the Rings series and, surprisingly, it will be a wacky sitcom featuring Gandalf and Gollum are forced to share flat together.
The official synopsis from Amazon is as follows
“Set before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Gandalf resolves to keep a close watch on Gollum after what happened on the journey with the dwarves.
In order to do so, he offers to provide a nice flat for the unfortunate ex-hobbit in a Minas Tirith. However, due to a quirk in the Middle Earth letting law, as a known murderer, Gollum is only allowed to live in the flat if accompanied by a responsible wizard – and so the scene is set for hilarious scrapes, wacky adventures and some touching moments.”
Showrunner Stewart James explained further.
“Oh man, the Lord of the Rings series? It’s hilarious. I mean, Gollum? And Gandalf? And they’re sharing a flat? It’s crazy,” he laughed.
“We got a long-running joke where Gollum keeps misplacing his ring and accuses Gandalf of stealing it and Gandalf is like ‘have you checked the kitchen?’ and Gollum finds it and is all ‘my precious!’ and is really affectionate to Gandalf who’s, like, this really uptight wizard.
“Then you’ve got Shadowfax who has to keep hiding in the bathroom when the landlord comes around, because magical horses aren’t allowed in the building. There’s the old elf in the flat upstairs who’s taken a shine to Gandalf and a radical hobbit who lives next door who is determined to fight for Gandalf and Gollum’s rights to be an out gay couple in Middle Earth, despite them not being gay.
“The whole thing’s going to be a riot.”
Lord of the Rings: He’s With Me will be filmed before a live studio audience in late 2021.

Movie adaptation of classic computer game Manic Miner in the works
Despite previous film adaptations of classic computer games being largely considered failures, a new production of classic 80s Sinclair Spectrum game Manic Miner has been announced.
An existential arthouse work, it will feature a miner slowly questioning his sanity as his mine fills with surreal items like tractors, toilets and Ronnie Corbett’s face.
For reasons he can’t explain, the miner becomes compelled to remove the items one by one, but rather that feeling accomplishment, he just moves ever on into the depths of the mine to collect ever-more bizarre items.
“It’s very much a Kafkaesque work,” said director Alan J. Pollock
“I want to get to the crisis at the very heart of the miner. What is it that has made him so manic? Why does he not simply glance at the terrifying collection of toasters and top hats in his mine and say ‘stuff this, I’m going for a Wimpy.’”
It is understood that Tom Hardy is interested in taking the part of the miner, but only if he can do it in a funny voice.
Mr Pollock confirmed that, even if Manic Miner is a success, he has no interest in directing the sequel – Jet Set Willy, about a drunken aristocrat prevented from going to bed by his housekeeper until he’s cleaned his 150-room mansion.
