1917 sequel 1918 planned, to be shot entirely upside down

Awards behemoth and one-shot not-gimmick 1917 has performed so well that a sequel is already in the works.

1918 will take place a year after the events in 1917 and will offer director Sam Mendes another chance to show off.

“I think that by shooting a war film in what appeared to be a continuous take I have proved that I am really very clever indeed,” explained the Jarhead director.

“So, for 1918, I will really have to pull something special out of the bag to show everyone that I’m actually even more clever than that.”

As such, the director has set himself an even greater technical challenge.

“I’ll be filming the entire film upside down and then flipping it over in post-production.

“I believe the unsettling effect will prove profoundly unsettling to audiences and remind them exactly how clever I am.”

The actual plot of the film has yet to be settled on.

“Oh, something war-y, I suppose,” said Mendes.

“Guns, mud, men running about. That sort of thing. The main thing is that it will be filmed entirely upside down, which has never happened before.

“Cinema pioneer. Right here.”

If 1918 is a success, it seems inevitable that it will be followed by 1919 which Mendes will choose to film entirely under the sea or using the Esperanto language or something equally clever.
