The upcoming live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon has been slammed as woke for featuring a variety of dragons that appear to be not indigenous to the Scandinavian countries.
“God. Why do they always do this? It’s set in Scandinavia, it should just have Scandinavian dragons,” said one Twitter user.
The dragons will be a variety of colours and appearances and will be voiced by a number of different actors.
“If anything, doing this is prejudice against normal dragons. It’s, like, reverse dragon-prejudice and I won’t be going to see the film because it’s reverse dragon-prejudice,” said a user from the comments section of a Facebook post on the film.
The controversy began when a list of the dragons featured in the film was released on to the internet.
People were quick to notice the diversity of appearances of the dragons.
“I know that dragons are mythical creatures, but these dragons definitely look like they would actually come from all countries around the world, including the more ethnic ones. I suppose it wouldn’t be woke enough to just have dragons who are Viking dragons,” reads a tweet sharing the list of dragons.
The situation quickly escalated and now there are calls for the film’s producers to produce a definitive list of the genealogy of each dragon featured in the film going back at list six generations. The producers have yet to comment.
