“What about Happy Jeff?” says increasingly desperate executive brainstorming new superheroes

An increasingly desperate film studio executive has suggested ‘Happy Jeff’ during a brainstorming session to come up with a new superhero for next summer’s big tentpole release.

“Well, it was a shot in the dark,” admitted Stewart James.

“It just popped into my head – Happy Jeff – by day he was this ordinary man called Jeff, but then, by night – Happy Jeff, who fought crime by using his special powers of being happy and cheering people up and having a really nice time.

“I thought it could be a really nice positive superhero. We could do an origin story where he was bitten by a radioactive happy person, he could have a nemesis – Grumpy Dave. They were ordinary, relatable-

“Look, I know, alright? Do you know how difficult it is to come up with new superheroes? All the good ones are taken. Superman can literally do anything, Wonder Woman is sexy, Batman’s made of bats. There’s not a lot of scope for something new.”

After making the suggestion, Mr James was told to leave the room and have a good long think about what he’d done.

“Yeah, look, fair enough. It wasn’t my greatest idea. But, you know, it’s not like anyone else was tearing up the room – Tree Man? Hamster! The Mighty Poker, Salmon Woman, we definitely were not having our best day ever.”

Although the experience was difficult for Mr Stewart, he has taken heart in the fact that someone thought that a story about Superman’s dog and his friends was a good idea.
