Training Day prequel ‘Welcome and Induction Day’ announced

A prequel to Denzel Washington 2001 hit Training Day has been announced called Welcome and Induction Day.

The film will focus on the day prior to events in Training Day in which Washington’s character welcomes Ethan Hawke’s character to the LAPD, runs him through some fire safety guidelines and shows him where the toilets are.

“Yeah, it’s kind of similar themes to Training Day but focusing more on the cavalier attitude of Detective Harris to health and safety and effective auditing procedures,” explained director Antoine Fuqua.

The film begins with Detective Harris greeting Officer Hoyt at the department.

Initially all seems fine, but Officer Hoyt is shocked and surprised by Harris’s instruction to prop a fire door open with a nearby fire extinguisher as they pop out for a smoke.

“He’s willing to let it go though,” says Fuqua.

“You know, he’s new, he doesn’t want to make waves. But Harris sees that and draws Hoyt in to his web of corruption by have him place a cup of coffee on a computer monitor and incorrectly file a report on a suspect under the suspect’s first name.”

Soon enough, Hoyt finds himself deep in the administrative corruption at the heart of the LAPD, and the film charts him wrestling with his conscience as he sees Detective Harris leaving phone chargers plugged in and blocking fire exits with his backpack.

If successful, Welcome and Induction Day could be followed by another prequel Interview Day in which Harris interviews Hoyt for the job and asks him some inappropriate questions about his personal life and political beliefs.
