The trailer voiceover man has taken news that none of his trailer voiceovers have been recorded since 2008 with stoicism and a determination to simply rerecord them all.
“It’s a blow, but I’m determined not to let it get me down,” he said.
The trailer voiceover man has been recording voiceovers for trailers since the late 70s with his deep baritone voice and dramatic descriptions beginning ‘In a time…’ or ‘In a place…’ being part of the cinema-going experience for many.
However, around 2008, trailers seemed to stop using the voiceovers.
“Well, I was still recording them, or at least I thought I was,” explained the trailer voiceover man.
“The Dark Knight? I did that – ‘In a place where law has been left to flying mammals…’, Quantum of Solace? That was me – ‘In a time where film titles have no meaning…’, Iron Man had a really good voiceover – ‘A man, and some iron. Together, they are Iron Man…’
“Thing is though, the tape recorder was on pause this whole time, so none of them were recorded.”
When trailers arrived at cinemas without a voiceover, cinema managers assumed it was an artistic decision on the part of the filmmakers and simply played the trailers without voiceovers.
“Must have been terribly confusing for people seeing the trailer without me explaining what the time and place was,” continued the voiceover man.
“Still, we’ve fixed this pause button snafu and so trailers will be back to normal now. I’ve just done one for Coming to America 2 – ‘In 1980s America, one man came…’
“Now, I’ve just got to go back and rerecord 12 years’ worth of trailers. Bit of a pain, but there’s no point getting down about it.”
Once the trailers are rerecorded, people will be able to exchange any DVDs or blu-rays with voiceover-less trailers as part of the extras for replacements with correctly voiceovered trailers.
Probably.

‘No plans’ for stamps based on Nuns on the Run
Following the recent announcement of stamps based on characters from the Star Wars franchise, Royal Mail have clarified that there are no plans for a similar commemorative edition of stamps based on Nuns on the Run.
Excitement was high amongst both Nuns on the Runs fans that the Star Wars stamps were just a precursor to a set of stamps based on the hilarious 1990 classic.
“Yeah, this is disappointing, to be honest,” said Martin Nichols, founder of the Nuns on the Run fan club, southern England division.
“After the Star Wars ones, I felt sure we were going to get the Nuns ones. I don’t understand why Royal Mail won’t do them. I mean, stamps with Eric Idle and Robbie Coltrane on them? Dressed as nuns? Who wouldn’t want to receive a letter with Eric Idle or Robbie Coltrane dressed as nuns on the stamp?
“No-one, that’s who.”
Marina Taylor, the other member of the Nuns on the Run fan club, southern England division, echoed Mr Nichols’ statements.
“It’s a bleeding disgrace,” she shouted, clearly angry.
“I got a little frame for them and everything. IF they weren’t going to do Nuns on the Run stamps, they shouldn’t have said they were.”
On being advised that there was never an announcement of Nuns on the Run stamps, Ms Taylor became angrier.
“Well there bleeding well should have been, shouldn’t there.”
The Royal Mail also confirmed it had no plans for stamps based on Sex Lies of the Potato Men, the Spice Girls movie or anything starring Danny Dyer.
So, stop asking.
