Top Gun 2 features tortured Maverick coming to terms with his homosexuality

Top Gun 2, the follow-up to the 80s classic, is to be a very different film from the original as it will focus on a tortured Pete Maverick coming to terms with his sexuality.

Although the first film never explicitly referenced Maverick’s homosexuality, the sheer amount of time spent with large men in locker-rooms wearing tiny towels seemed, to many, to be a clear implication of the true theme of the film.

“Yeah, I think the people who were clued into the gay aspect of the first film will feel at home here,” said director Jerry Scott

“We pick up the story several years after Iceman and Maverick were expelled from the US Air Force for committing an act in a shower after a particularly intense game of Volleyball.

Maverick has been unable to reconcile his sexuality and when we first see him, he is drunkenly singing Righteous Brothers songs to women in bars.

Everything changes when Iceman and his pretty young wife move into Maverick’s road.

“Seeing Mrs Iceman really triggers something in Maverick,” continues Jerry.

“Iceman has not only supressed his own homosexuality, but has denied his true feelings for Mav and what the two of them have. Mav smashes up a bar and goes crazy. They throw him in jail. But an international crisis with an evil foreign power sees the US Air Force turn up on Iceman’s doorstep, and Iceman will only fly with Maverick.”

Do Maverick and Iceman get together at the end? Jerry Scott isn’t saying.

“Hey, you got to come see the Top Gun 2, man. But, listen, the US Air Force learns a valuable lesson about homosexual pilots.”

“As for Mav and Iceman. All I’ll say is that they can be each other’s wingman. Anytime.”
