The Batman Part II delay caused by casting problems with the Batfink character

The sequel to the Batman has been delayed until 2027, it has been revealed, due to casting problems with the character of Batfink.

“With The Batman, the mission with the movie was to tell a serious, hard-hitting, realistic story about a man who dresses up as a bat,” explained director Matt Reeves.

“With the sequel, we went into it with that same mindset, and it is that which has proved a challenge when it came to the casting of Batfink.”

Batfink is an anthropomorphic bat who has wings like a shield of steel. He fights criminals such as Hugo A-Go-Go and Ebeneezer the Freezer.

“We wanted to introduce Batfink into The Batman Part II because he is an intrinsic part of the legend of Batman. 

“The plan was, obviously, to take the Batfink and make him serious and gritty and dark, like our Batman is. But the problem was that all the bats that we saw to play Batfink were impossible to take seriously. They just sort of bobbed about a bit and then flew away, swooping through the trees. They were just mucking about. None of them seemed to appreciate the hard-hitting nature of the story we wanted to tell.”

“Without Batfink, we can’t make this sequel work, so it is now paused for a year whilst we consider other options.”

It is rumoured that the sequel will still go ahead with Andy Serkis playing a CGI Batfink, and he will be spending the next six months studying the Batfink TV show to create as realistic a version of the character as is possible.
