Squid or Llama? The picture that’s dividing the internet

llama

It all started with the long-running discussion over the colour of ‘that’ dress, now the internet is once again the scene of a furious debate over exactly what can be seen in this photo.

Due to a particularly curious optical illusion, to some people this photograph appears to be of a squid, whereas many others will swear that the picture is of a llama

Internet fan Denise Spanner was one of many to comment on the picture.

“Crazy scenes as ppl saying this is a squid,” she posted on Facebook

“It’s so a llama.”

However, she was immediately met with a withering response from father Derek.

“Don’t be soft, lass,” he posted

“It’s a squid, obviously it’s a squid. To think that a daughter of mine would say it’s a llama. You’ve brought nothing but shame to this family. Same as every day since the day you were born. Shame, disgrace, and disappointment. I can barely even look at you.

“Oh, and can you pick up some fish fingers for tea.”

The original picture, posted on LlamaWorld.com, has now been viewed over 6000 billion trillion times and the comments thread underneath would, if printed out, stretch beyond the edge of our galaxy

The controversy surrounding the picture has even made its way into the celebrity world, with One Foot in the Grave star Richard Wilson taking time out of his celebrity lifestyle to post – ‘I don’t believe it, it’s a Llama.’

However, the world’s second best living Pope – Benedict XVI was quick to respond; “Bless you, and I forgive you your sins Richard, but it’s definitely a squid.”

So why can people look at the same picture and see very different things? We turned to top scientist and Hollywood actor Brian Cox.

“Yes, we’ve seen this a lot recently,” he nodded, brainily.

“It all started with the picture of the dress, then a variety of visual or auditory illusions spreading across the web. Now we have this latest one – Squid or Llama.”

“There is a very simple reason why people see different things when looking at the picture.”

“They’re really, very stupid.”

“I mean, it’s obviously a squid, you’d have to be some sort of mega-div to think it’s a llama.”
