Sopranos prequel The Many Saints Of Newark set in Chelmsford

The Many Saints Of Newark

More details have emerged of the hugely anticipated Sopranos prequel The Many Saints Of Newark is to be set in Chelmsford, England.

The story will be based around a young Tony Soprano’s tentative attempts to establish a crime syndicate in the leafy County Town of Essex.

“Yeah, so we originally had the whole thing set in Jersey, like the TV show,” said writer David Chase.

“But then we were like – hey, if you’re an ambitious mob guy like Tony in the eighties, then Chelmsford is perfect.

“You got the pedestrianisation of the High Street, the new Ice Rink development, Dukes nightclub

“The mafia would have had a piece of all of that and it’s Tony at the heart of everything.”

It is rumoured that the story will focus on Tony, fresh out of the Anglo-European school in nearby commuter village Ingatestone, and his disillusionment at working in Chelmsford’s Britvic soft drink factory.

He soon falls into crime after supplying drugs to the weirdos in the Prince of Orange and sets up a major mafia base in Starburger just by the precinct.

“Yeah, we’re psyched,” continued Chase.

“There’s just not enough mafia movies set in Essex, so Saints should change that.”

If successful, it has been speculated that a sequel would take place in Southend with the mafia operating out of the Adventure Island funfair, by the pier.
