Sony has stunned gamers by revealing the ‘X’ button on their popular dualshock controller is actually pronounced ‘boo-tain.’
The revelation follows a poll conducted by Sony that revealed nearly all gamers pronounced it ‘X button.’
A tweet from Sony was sent after the poll was closed.
“Jeez, are you people stupid,” it read.
“It’s pronounced ‘ X boo-tain.’ It’s classy, it’s European-sounding. We’re not like Microsoft with their common-sounding ‘buttons.’ We’re Sony, we’re aspirational. You’re there with your good-looking model friends, you’re playing Playstation in your Tuscan villa, you’re not going to ruin the vibe by saying ‘button’ are you?”
Gamers were surprised by the announcement.
“That’s amazing – ‘boo-tain’ – I can’t believe it,” exclaimed Stewart James , a lifelong Playstation fan.
“’Press the ‘X’ boo-tain now’ – It’s the sort of thing you’d have heard in Louis XIV’s Palace of Versailles.”
“I had no idea I was so classy playing the Playstation. I might have to put some pants on.”
Sony have declined to confirm whether or not the ‘X’ in ‘X button’ should be pronounced ‘X’ like the letter, or ‘cross.’
“No,” said a Sony representative.
“We’re not really bothered about that.”
