The Animal Kingdom as been left shocked after a swift and brutal revolution saw its Lion King deposed and replaced with a new Lion President.

The Animal Kingdom will now be known as the Animal Republic and there are even promises of elections and democracy.

The previous and potentially final Lion King, Simba, has been executed, along with his advisors Timon and Pumba, by a faction led by new president Scar in a transfer of power that took place in less than a day and already has full support of the powerful hyena contingent.

“No longer will animals be in thrall to an outdated, and unfair means of rule that sees power pass from lion to lion with no mandate from the people,” said the Lion President, as he made his first speech from Pride Rock.

“We will also seek to end the brutal principle of the ‘circle of life’ that has been forced upon us by these so-called ‘Lion Kings.’

“Under my rule, I will establish a series of state farms to generate food so that no animal will never again by forced to be eaten by animals higher in the food chain.”

President Scar then finished his speech with a cheery ‘Hakuna Matata,’ leaving animals everywhere contemplating life without a King for the first time in living memory.

However, there were concerns about the legitimacy of the democracy after officials from Scar’s new government could only confirm that free elections would happen ‘at some point’ and then started cackling when it was suggested that Scar wouldn’t win those elections.
