Early showings of the Radiohead biopic get better and better until around halfway through, when the film takes a turn for the weird from which point no-one really understands what’s going on.
Radiohead aficionado Cam Pollis, was lucky enough to see one of the screenings, saying, “The film charts the Oxford-based band’s rise formation and through the first, second and, arguably greatest, third album. In fact, halfway along, it’s amazing and could well be the best film ever released.
“However, as soon as that bit’s finished, no-one seemed to understand what the hell was happening.
“First, there’s a bit where they released two albums at once, neither of which had any songs on them, then a confusing bit where they asked fans to pay what they liked for an album.
“Then, all the band are replaced with geese, except for Thom Yorke, who turns into a gigantic fridge whose door opens and closes for the rest of the film. I think it’s meant to say something about… you know… something or other. Then they change back, except for Thom, who changes into a swan, which later turns out to be a duck.
“To be honest, it didn’t really matter at that point, as pretty much everyone in the screening room had left, and those still there – just the hardcore film fans – were all pulling a non-comprehending frown and trying to enjoy something that was so enjoyable not half an hour earlier.
“It was like the director had done such a brilliant job up to that point, that his head disappeared so far up his own backside that it came out as his head again, but with a overfilled bowel on top.
“From that point on, frankly, it just seemed like a lot of noise with no discernible plot or story.
“Honestly, it was like a production crew that had hit such heights they literally did not know what to do next.”
Radiohead: Bigger, Better, What’s Happening..? Don’t Get It… is slated next year.
