Following the success of the first season, Queen’s Gambit season 2 has been announced and will focus on prodigy Beth Harmon’s newly discovered astonishing talent for Donkey Kong.
“We did think about sticking with chess,” explained producer Allan Scott.
“But, really, it’s a bit square. It’s for brainiacs and spods. For Queen’s Gambit Season 2 we wanted to make the whole thing a bit cooler, a bit more funky, and who’s cooler and funkier than Donkey Kong!”
Beginning in 1980, the opening episode will see Beth take a load of drugs and go to the arcade where she finds a Donkey Kong machine.
Immediately entranced, she demands that an old man teach her the rules of Donkey Kong.
She returns home, takes a load more drugs, lays on the bed and plays an imaginary game of Donkey Kong on the ceiling of her bedroom.
Satisfied, she returns to the arcade and gets the highest score on the Donkey Kong machine, to the surprise and chagrin of all the other Donkey Kong experts.
“We then follow Beth as she negotiates the exciting world of Donkey Kong,” continued Scott.
“Playing in arcades around the world, buying a little Donkey Kong game for her home and battling to find respect as a female Donkey Kong player in a man’s world.”
The success of the first season saw the popularity of chess explode with one toy shop in London reporting sales of over one chess board.
“Never had so much demand for chess boards,” said Toy shop proprietor Stewart James.
“If they do Donkey Kong next season, well, I suppose I can dig out an old handheld Donkey Kong game from the store room and put it on the counter.
“Might shift it.”
Queen’s Gambit Season 2 is due next year and, if successful, will see a season 3 that will focus on Beth’s skills at Halo 3 multiplayer.

The possibility of Rob Lowe being able to control the weather with just his mind raises the possibility that he is perhaps an example of the next stage of evolution for humankind.
“Certainly, if he were able to leverage the power of his mind to control the weather, we would have to examine the possibility that he had become some sort of advanced human.”
“However, the fact that he doesn’t possess this power would lead us to conclude that he is not evolved any further than you or me.”
“Although, he is quite handsome…”
