A new Lego Star Wars game has, inevitably, been announced.
Lego: The Making of Star Wars will feature nine classic Star Wars making-of documentaries and render them in Lego form. Players will play as Lego versions of the technicians who worked on the films and play through each making-of documentary constructing Lego puppets, miniatures and even some Lego CGI.
“I’ve got to be honest, I thought for a while there that the Lego Star Wars game gravy train had run dry,” said Stewart James, producer of the popular series.
“We’ve done Lego Star Wars games for each of the films, each of the trilogies, featuring the games we’d already done, and then finally one game featuring all the trilogies that we’d already done that featured all the films we’d done.
“There was no way we were going to be able to squeeze out any more Lego Star Wars games, right? Wrong.
“We were kicking around some ideas for a new Lego game – Lego: Green Book, Lego: The Handmaiden, Lego: Pather Panchali – but nothing was really working. Then Jeff said – ‘hey, what about those documentaries on the Star Wars blu-rays that no one ever watches?’ – Brilliant.
“So, yeah, Lego: The Making of Star Wars. Why not, right? Play as a Lego version of some weirdy-beardy guy from the seventies and you’ve got to go round a Lego version of the ILM studio and create a Lego model version of Mos Eisley and then explain how you did it.
“Yeah, I know. Seems weird, but you know how it is. Slap ‘Lego Star Wars’ on the box and people will buy it.”
It is rumoured that following the completion of Lego: The Making of Star Wars, the team will start work on Lego Lego Star Wars. A Lego version of the first Lego Star Wars game.
