A redesigned Sonic the Hedgehog was revealed in a new trailer for the upcoming movie and appears to simply be a hedgehog.
The trailer showed a hedgehog snuffling around in some straw for three minutes while the iconic green zone theme played.
“Well, if anything, that’s too hedgehoggy now,” exclaimed disappointed Sonic fan Stewart James.
“I mean, Sonic is meant to be blue and fast and a bit of a wiseass, that’s just a hedgehog doing hedgehoggy things.”
The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer debuted earlier this year and was immediately slammed by audiences for the weird design of Sonic, which included human teeth, fingernails and an anatomically correct pair of women’s breasts.
“I think it’s fair that we were criticised for making Sonic a little too human,” explained director Jeff Fowler.
“I mean, I enjoyed Sonic having breasts very much, but you’ve got to listen to your fans, and so now we’ve got rid of all of that and Sonic is back to his hedgehoggy roots.”
The film also has a completely rewritten plot in which Sonic gets trapped in an old woodpile and a family has to rescue him.
It is expected that the new redesign for Doctor Eggman will appear in a second trailer to debut in the New Year, but Mr Fowler was happy to give a sneak preview of what to expect.
“Yeah, that’s pretty much just an egg.”
