A new trailer for Marvel’s Black Widow has been released and depicts the popular Avenger as a bassist in a jazz-funk band, suggesting the film could focus on Natalia’s early pre-superhero musical career.
Opening with a dramatic sweep across the snowy plains of Russia, the funky bassline of Herbie Hancock’s Chameleon can be heard.
The camera then flies into the streets of St. Petersburg, darting through markets and across roads before entering a dingy club, flying across the audience’s heads and stopping in front of Black Widow at the exact moment she busts out a slamming bass solo.
“This is great news, really great. I loved that trailer,” explained Steven Weinberg, leading theoretical physicist and Black Widow fan.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love the way they’ve portrayed Black Widow in the Avengers movies, but you’ve hardly seen anything of her bass playing, and that’s one of the best things about the character.”
Speculation is that Black Widow will focus on Nick Fury’s attempts to get Natalia to leave her St. Petersburg jazz-funk band – Luminescence – and join the Avengers who, at those early stages, Fury envisioned as a touring soul and funk band.
Black Widow will be released in 2020 and will be accompanied by the funkiest superhero soundtrack since the original Spiderman cartoon.
