A new trailer for the second season of Handmaid’s Tale has been released and the huge number of kittens featured has come as a surprise to many.
The atmospheric new trailer featured the disturbing image of Elizabeth Moss’s Offered covered in blood closely followed by a scene of some twenty nice kittens playing in a lovely field.
“When we set out to make Handmaid’s Tale, we wanted it to be a feminist parable set in a near-future nightmarish dystopia and feature lots and lots of kittens,” said showrunner Bruce Miller.
“I think we really succeeded with the nightmarish dystopian aspect in the first season, but we definitely really let our audience down with the paucity of kittens.”
Mr Miller also revealed that Handmaid’s Tale author Margaret Atwood had given her support to his plans for season 2.
“Yes, apparently she always planned to have more kittens in the original book,” he said.
“But she was in a bit of a hurry to get it finished so she could go out and play, and it was only when the rave reviews started coming in and not mentioning the kittens that she realised that she’d forgot to put any in.”
“The big dafty.”
The second season of Handmaid’s Tale will debut on Hulu later this year and special Handmaid’s Tale soft toy kittens will be in the shops for Christmas.
