Large black monolith appeared on the set of Road House

A new documentary about Patrick Swayze bouncer classic Road House has revealed that, throughout production, a large black monolith appeared in various locations where filming was to take place.

Road House: The Greatest Story Ever Told sees star Sam Elliott recall the strange events.

“Well, we came in one morning to film some fighting and there in the centre of Deuce car lot was this black slab,” he said.

“It was about ten feet tall, it was smooth to the touch, and if you got close enough, you could hear a musical tone. It was strange, man. Really strange. The guys tried to pick it up, but that thing wasn’t going anywhere.

“I guess we figured it wasn’t doing any harm, so Rowdy [Herrington – director], reblocked the scene so it wasn’t in shot and we carried on.

“Crazy thing was, next day they filmed out at that barn where Pat’s character lived and, you know what? That big old black slab appeared there too.

“I’ll tell you something else as well, if we did some real good fighting scenes, that musical tone got louder and louder.

“Damndest thing I ever heard of.”

There has never been a report of a black monolith appearing in the Road House locations since the filming took place, which does seem to indicate that its appearance was specifically connected to the making of the film in some may. However, its purpose and meaning seem destined to remain a mystery.

Interestingly, there was a report of a similar black monolith appearing some years later outside of the room where a full script-read of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was taking place, but the moment someone mentioned midi-chlorians, it promptly disappeared and was never seen again.
