New Cut of Apocalypse Now to include Platoon

Francis Ford Coppola has announced a new cut of his Vietnam classic Apocalypse Now.

The new ‘Final, Absolute, Complete, That’s-Totally-the-Last-One, Finished-Now, Director’s Cut’ will include brand new footage of Martin Sheen screaming, Marlon Brando being weird and, fascinatingly, the entirety of the Oliver Stone film Platoon.

“The original cut is strong on the place, the war, the country, but Platoon really got what the life of a solider on the ground was like,” said the legendary director.

“So, for this final, final cut of Apocalypse Now, it seemed sensible to me to include the whole of Platoon and then we have the really definitive Vietnam story.”

Platoon will begin just after the classic scenes with Robert Duvall. As Willard and his crew leave Kilgore, and begin sailing up the river, a new shot of a plane flying overhead is seen. Wilard’s crew look up at it. The plane lands, the back opens and a group of soldiers exit, Charlie’s Sheen’s Chris Taylor is amongst them. The entirety of Platoon then plays out before the film cuts back to Wilard’s story and he arrives at the army outpost to collect a dispatch bag.

The new cut will be considered the definitive final cut of the film.

“Absolutely,” confirmed Coppola.

“I mean, for this year, anyway. As for next year, I don’t know. I’ve often thought that there isn’t enough humour in this picture, perhaps we could work in some scenes from that Robin Williams picture?

“If we did that, then we’d have the absolute definitive Apocalypse Now experience. Will think about that next year.”
