New Chinese cut of Fight Club has Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter fly off in a magical car

Following criticism of a Chinese cut of Fight Club replaced the final scenes of the film with a text explanation that Tyler Durden had been sent to a ‘lunatic asylum’, a new cut of the film has emerged that shows Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter flying off together in a magical hot-rod car.

In the original film, the unnamed Edward Norton character kills his alter ego Tyler Durden and blows up a series of skyscrapers, that has now been replaced with a jolly Edward Norton and girlfriend Helena Bonham Carter singing ‘We’ll Always Be together’ before getting into a souped-up hot-rod car and flying off together leaving all their friends behind singing the song.

“The way we censored the film to begin with was a little clumsy,” explained a representative for Chinese streaming service Tencent.

“Hopefully though, this new version is a little slicker, and is a nice compromise.

“Obviously, we can’t keep the original closing scene of all those buildings exploding because people might see that and be encouraged to go and blow up office buildings in real-life, as we see so often happen in America.

“So, instead we have the two lead characters fly off together in a magical hot-rod. It’s a more hopeful, nicer ending and the only thing it may encourage people to do is invent a magical flying hot-rod which would be lovely.

“And that’s ever such a catchy song as well.”

It is understood that the streaming giant intends to make further changes to classic films that have difficult endings with Inception, Mulholland Drive, and Black Swan all set to have their endings replaced with a scene in which the two lead characters fly off together in a magical hot-rod.

*Alright, perhaps ‘love’ is pushing it, maybe ‘be mildly diverted by’
