Equalizer 3 sees Robert McCall travel back in time to Old West to rescue scientist friend

The Equalizer 3 has been confirmed and will see Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall travel back in time to the old west, where an old scientist friend is in perilous danger.

“We’ve already had Robert defeat Russian terrorists and ex-CIA mercenaries,” explained director Antoine Fuqua.

“We needed to up the ante for the final film, and what better way than to pitch him against the lawless outlaws of the old west.”

This will be the first film in the series to introduce the concept of time-travel. “I know it does seem a bit incongruous – “oh, by the way, Robert is a time-traveller, and time-travelling is a thing” – but, you know, it does actually fit because we never actually said that he couldn’t travel through time in the previous films.”

Fuqua admitted to being influenced by eighties classic Back to the Future III

“Yes, if you look closely, you probably will see the influence of Back to the Future III. When he goes back in time, Robert calls himself John Wayne. That’s a nod to Marty calling himself Clint Eastwood in the Old West. We’ve also got ZZ Top playing a hoedown.

“But, you know, that’s really where the similarities end. We’ve got quite a few more decapitations and brutal murders of the bad guys and I’m fairly sure Back to the Future didn’t have anyone’s eyeballs getting popped before being thrown off a tall building onto a spike.

“We do have time-travelling steam-train though!”

Fuqua admitted that initially his idea for Equalizer 3 was very different.

“Yeah, I’d watched Godfather 3 recently, so I thought about a plot involving the Vatican and a real estate company and a nice drive in the Sicilian countryside. But it turned out to be really stupid and not really make sense.

“I don’t want this to be stupid, so, it’s back to the old west for us!”
