Mindhunter is to return for a second series in which the criminal profiling pioneers attempt to capture Freddie Krueger.
Moving into the eighties, the psychological profiling techniques of Holden Ford and Bill Trench are gaining credibility when they attempt to capture one of most prolific supernatural serial killers of all time.
“It was important to give Holden and Bill a real challenge in this new season,” explained creator Joe Penhall.
“What’s a bigger challenge than Freddie Krueger? He can enter your dreams, he’s got that knifey glove thing, how the hell are they going to investigate his countless murders?”
It turns out that the answer is by painstakingly interviewing other supernatural killers like Dracula, Pinhead, and the clown from IT.
“Obviously, we know that they don’t capture Freddie, because he goes on to kill throughout the eighties, nineties and, implausibly, into the 2000s,” continued Penhall.
“But what we see here is the groundbreaking work that went into developing profiling techniques for supernatural killers that would, ultimately, lead to the arrest of Krueger, Candyman, the Babadook, and so many others.”
It is understood that a third series of the acclaimed show has already been commissioned, and will be looking at the unit’s work in profiling space villains like Darth Vader, Thanos, and the Cylons (the robot ones, not the sexy lady ones).
