Matt Damon wins Best Carrot: Golden Globe Vegetable Show awards

With the controversy surrounding the Golden Globes for films and TV this year, the Golden Globes Vegetable Show awards appear to have been overlooked, which is a shame because, as is often the case, some of Hollywood’s best work was done in the Vegetable exhibition categories.

Best Carrot: Matt Damon

Winning with a spectacular Nantes hybrid, the Good Will Hunting star proved that there is no-one in Hollywood who can come close to his extraordinary talent for growing exhibition quality carrots. This is the fourth year in a row Matt has taken home the Golden Globe for best carrot, making him Hollywood’s greatest ever Golden Globe carrot grower.

Best Beetroot: Andie MacDowell

A real shock this year. MacDowell is best known for her Nadine potatoes which, whilst always solid, have never impressed enough to trouble the Golden Globes. 2019 saw her stun Hollywood vegetable growers with a glorious Cheltenham Greentop that took home the Golden Globe.

Best Onion: Timothee Chalamet

A first Golden Globe for Timothee’s vegetables and some genuine Golden Globe controversy. Many people thought that Emma Stone had the Onion category sewn up this year with a beautiful Sturon, and so there was an audible gasp in the auditorium when Chalamet’s name was read out.

Stone and her gardener could be seen later on locked together in furious debate.

Other highlights included a delightful parsnip from Margot Robbie and some beautiful dwarf broad beans from the always excellent Denzel Washington which saw them both win their respective categories.

A tremendous and exciting Golden Globe Vegetable show then but, once again, largely ignored by the mainstream press.

We can only hope that Hollywood vegetable growing gets the coverage it deserves at the Academy Awards for Vegetable growing next month.
