A trailer for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, the new Netflix animated Jurassic project, has been revealed and has given an indication of just how camp the series will actually be.
It shows a Velociraptor in a velvet kaftan quietly humming a George Michael song while dusting his collection of Lalique glassware.
“It is quite a departure from the Jurassic films, yes,” admitted showrunner Scott Kreamer.
“There’s no dinosaurs brutally savaging humans here. In fact, the only savaging these dinosaurs do is with their putdowns.”
He went on to give an overview of the show.
“Well, we’ve got five dinosaurs who live together in the bohemian district of the abandoned Isla Nublar and they have a dream to set up a nightclub where only the most fabulous dinosaurs can come and exchange witty repartee and listen to heartfelt and dramatic performances of Shirley Bassey and Mariah Carey songs.
“However, there are other dinosaurs who just want to rampage around the jungle smashing up trees and having fights.
“That culture clash is the heart of the show.”
Interestingly, the show is rooted in scientific fact.
“Oh yes, it is well understood that the Cretaceous period was the campest of all the geological periods,” explained Stewart James, Oxford University’s Professor of Dinosaurs.
“We have discovered a fossil of a hadrosaur skull with a red feather turban, a full skeleton of Theropod in a ruffled ballgown, and the famous Triceratops found in incredibly well-preserved backless chaps.
“And of course, you’ve got the Tyrannosaurus Rex, everyone knows that all that roaring and violence is just over-compensation.”
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will arrive in September, and should it prove successful, it is understood that Netflix plans to follow it up with Jurassic World: Flamboyant Fukuisaurus.
