Whilst the Succession finale has been widely hailed as a television masterpiece, the intriguing post-credit scene has raised numerous questions about the fate of Logan Roy and any potential spin-offs.
It had been assumed that Logan had died earlier in the season, but there were some conspiracy theories that he’d faked his own death. It turns out those theories may be correct.
The post-credit sequence sees Tom, in his new office, and behind him there is a flash of lights. Tom turns round to see Logan standing next to a sleek, futuristic looking craft. “Tom,” says Logan, “you have to come with me?”
“Where to?” answers a visibly shaken Tom.
“To the future.”
“The future. Why? Do I fail as a CEO?”
“No, Tom. You’re fine. It’s your kids. Something has to be done about your kids.”
Tom and Logan then enter the craft, there is another flash of light and the craft disappears, seemingly into the future.
The scene seems to indicate that there will be a spin-off series featuring Logan and Tom in the future.
“I would imagine we’re looking at two options here,” explained Succession mega-fan Barry Succession.
“1, The new spin-off is Succession, but in the future, when Tom is retiring. So it’ll be like normal Succession but with hoverboards and jetpacks and sex robots.
“Or, 2, it’ll be a different kind of thing with Logan and Tom just travelling through time having all sorts of wacky adventures.
“Obviously, I’m hoping for 2. Who wouldn’t?”
The post-credit scene is often seen in films, but Succession is the first TV show to use it since The Soprano’s famous post-credit scene that saw Tony approached by Robert DeNiro’s Jimmy Conway character from Goodfellas to form a ‘family’ of criminals called ‘The Mafia.’
