House of the Dragon slammed for not featuring hobbits, orcs or Gandalf

As House of the Dragon reaches the end of its first season, criticism is becoming more and more vocal, particularly the lack of hobbits, orcs and Gandalf.

“I know it’s a prequel, I know it’s set hundreds of years before what we’re used to, but we haven’t even seen a hobbit yet? That’s mad,” said Stewart James, a fan who had been looking forward to the new show.

“I mean, hobbits are so famous, so important to the lore. I was originally a bit taken aback that a hobbit wasn’t a hero of the whole thing. Instead, we’ve got this really quite unpleasant family of humans. I know humans have never been portrayed terribly well but all that stuff with the uncle and the niece? You wouldn’t have seen Aragorn getting himself involved in all that.”

Kelly Grace is another fan who is growing disillusioned with the new show.

“I was hoping we’d find out more about Gandalf’s past. You know, he’s really old and dominates the whole story, I’d have thought that if you were doing a prequel, you’d find out a bit more about who he is and where he comes from and everything. But you don’t. Unless he’s a dragon, which would be pretty cool, but there’s nothing really to indicate that’s the case.”

Whilst there are still two episodes of the first season to go, fans are increasingly switching off and moving to big fantasy rival The Rings of Power instead, although, that appears to be receiving its own criticism as well.

“It’s rubbish,” said one fan.

“There’s no sex, the violence is very tame, and there’s all these little hobbits going about everywhere.”
