In a surprising development, the popular Home Alone franchise is set to return with Home Alone 5 featuring original star Macaulay Culkin.
The film will centre on a week in the run up to Christmas where Culkin watches some TV, wraps some presents and has a friend round for coffee.
Home Alone fans will be looking forward to a return to the wacky adventures of the first two Culkin starring Home Alone films.
“Yeah, we’re not really going for wacky adventures here,” said director John Columbus.
“I mean, Mac’s hurt his back a bit, so he’s just going to take it easy. Although, there is a really funny bit where he goes on Youtube and finds a video of a dog using a slide.”
“But viewers don’t get to see the video, it’s copywritten. You do get to see Mac really enjoying it, though. He’s really laughing.”
Mr Columbus also made clear that the film wouldn’t feature Culkin setting a series of slapstick traps to foil burglars.
“What, are you kidding? He’s 36, if there is the potential threat of a home invasion, he’s going to call the police and hide as an sensible grown-up would.”
If the film is successful, then it is expected the franchise will return the following year with Home Alone 6, in which Macaulay Culkin hangs out in a hotel in New York, does a little shopping and hooks up with some friends on the east coast he hasn’t seen for a while

Your site is pretty broken in MS Edge. The left-border advertising overlaps the text, forcing me to copy it and paste into a notepad doc just to read it… which I won’t be doing again. Please fix this, since not everyone can use Chrome or Firefox at work.
Valid point, mate. Valid point. Advertising is the devil you dance with. On the one hand, it can make things look a bit shonky. On the other, it’s the only way I get to make a bit of cash out of this lark. I think this ad placement assumes that the browser will be a certain width, so that it opens in the space between the text and the edge of, well, Edge. Same in other browsers. I’ll have a word with the Ads company, see if they’ve any suggestions. Thanks for the comment.
