Unrealistic? Gladiator 2 made using cameras and microphones which didn’t even exist in ancient Rome

The fallout from the most recent Gladiator 2 trailer continues with many people pointing out that it was anachronistic and unrealistic not just because of the Jay-Z song, but because it had clearly been filmed using cameras and microphones which didn’t exist in ancient Rome.

“It’s just historically illiterate. It’s unrealistic. I’m not going to see it. I mean, I’m expected to believe that this is set in ancient Rome when it’s clearly been filmed in 4k high-resolution, and there is no way they had 4k high-resolution in ancient Rome,” said Stewart James, in one of the first comments on the trailer.

“I can also hear what people are saying, so they must have used microphones to record people’s voices. It’s just anachronistic. And it’s got Paul Mescal in it. There’s no way he was ever in ancient Rome, he’d have to be 2000 years old and he’s clearly only about 30.”

Another commenter went on to say what they should do to make Gladiator 2 more realistic.

“Well, probably they should just write the story on papyrus in a sort of ink made from burnt resin or pitch.

“It needs to be realistic, or what’s the point?”
