Kevin Costner recuts Horizon Chapter 2 to feature more slapstick comedy and a cute talking animal

Following the disappointing returns of his Horizon: An American Epic Chapter 1, Kevin Costner has recut the second chapter to feature more slapstick comedy and a cute talking animal.

“Yeah, looking at it now with fresh eyes, it’s clear that Horizon needed more people falling on their butts,” explained the Dances with Wolves legend.

“I mean a beautiful, elegiac tale of the Old West is fine, but what people really want to see is an old geezer’s pants fall down, and then, when he goes to pull them up again, he falls on his ass! Now that’s really movie-making, right there.

“I had to get some of the guys back in to do some pie-in-the-face gags and banana skin slips and that kind of thing. But I think it’s worth it.”

He has also introduced a comedy gopher that befriends Costner’s character Hayes Ellison.

“Gary the Gopher. Man, he is hilarious. He’s CGI, so we could just insert him into existing scenes. Like, I’ll be sat by a fire under a big old sky and Gary will appear and sing a funny song and then fall on his butt. He’s great!”

The director and star is confident that his new tonally different Episode 2 will prove more appealing to audiences.

“Yeah, I’m really psyched about it. I think people are going to love this new Chapter 2,” he laughed.

“In fact, I’ve been thinking some about The Postman. I think I understand a bit more why it bombed now and maybe it’s time to revisit that and make a director’s cut with some new scenes inserted of Gary the Gopher singing a song and then falling on his butt.”
