An intriguing new fan theory that Arya is actually Ned Stark in disguise has been gaining traction on the Internet.
The theory posits that, after being beheaded, Ned Stark patiently waited for his head to grow back, and then adopted the identity of his youngest daughter in order to seek revenge on all those who wronged him.
“It definitely makes sense if you think about it,” said Game of Thrones fans Stewart James, seemingly oblivious to the fact that it doesn’t make sense.
“I mean, Ned was brilliant at fighting and then Arya was brilliant at fighting. You never see them together. Arya seems to know her way around places that she’d never been before.
“There’s a lot of evidence to back it up.”
The theory even has an explanation as to what happened to Arya.
“Yeah, she just wandered off in that first season. I mean, you know what kids are like, they get bored and wander off, don’t they.”
The theory concludes that after Ned, dressed as Arya, kills the Night King, the real Arya comes back to Winterfell and Ned secretly goes off to serve in the Black Watch.
“Makes sense,” agrees James
“There was definitely a scene where Arya looks a bit confused and that’s because everyone’s saying that she’s all a badass assassin and she’s like – ‘what? I was just wondering about for a few years having a nice time.’”
There theory is that latest in a long line of fan theories including one where Brienne of Tarth ate Catelyn Stark, another one that suggests Jon Snow is Batman and, most intriguingly of all, the suggestion that the events of the eight seasons of Game of Thrones all took place in the imagination of that kid from the final episode of St Elsewhere.
