Sense and Sensibility

Mum classic. Bonnets, National Trust properties, the cast of Harry Potter. Maggie Smith or Judi Dench being caustic and waspish. Dammed if I can remember the plot but it’ll be something like Emma Thompson wants to read books and Hugh Grant wants to marry Kate Winslet. Lord Darcy-Flarcy holds one of his magnificent balls. Maggie/Judi tells Emma that reading books is fine and then Hugh and Kate get married.

Trivia

Writer Emma Thompson based Sense and Sensibility on Marin Scorsese’s Mean Streets.

Filmed at The National Trust’s Saltram House. The film’s popularity saw the National Trust visitor numbers increase by such a degree that they were forced to build 16 new historic buildings to keep up with demand.

Incredibly, Colin Firth wasn’t in Sense and Sensibility.

Despite it being your Mum’s favourite film, she’s never actually seen the ending because she always dozes off during the ball scene.

Bloopers

At the wedding disco, the DJ plays Come On Eileen, a song that wouldn’t be released for some 200 years.
