Con Air

Yes! Nic Cage has really long hair and a toy bunny. He gets on a plane stuffed to the wings with criminals and is shocked, shocked, I tell you, to discover that all those criminals plan to do a crime. Nic’s not having any of this so he throws a man out of the plan to alert John Cusack to the fact that there’s going to be crimes. Chief O’Brien from the enterprise turns up for a shout, then the plane crashes into Las Vegas. Third best film ever.

Trivia

John Cusack, Nic Cage, and Colm Meaney got on so well during the shoot that they teamed up as vigilante costumed heroes to fight crime out of Meaney’s basement.

Con Air was the IMDB top movie for three years, and is leading economist James J. Heckman’s favourite film.

Losing out to Titanic in all the major Oscar categories in the 1998 awards is considered one of the all-time Oscar travesties.

The story is a loose adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses.

Bloopers

Due to a misprint in the shoot script, the entire opening bar scene was actually filmed upside down. Happily, they were able to turn the scenes 180 degrees in the editing suite.
