Armageddon

After only just surviving that asteroid from Deep Impact crashing into Earth, they discover that now we’re going to get hit with another one. Top brains have a big think and decide the best thing to do is to make Bruce Willis drill a big hole in the asteroid and then it will go away. Much mystical talk about how drilling a hole in the ground is only something you can do after a lifetime of experience so rather than teaching astronauts how to work a drill, it’ll be cheaper and easier to teach Bruce Willis how to be an astronaut. Bruce, Ben Affleck and some other actors that you’ll recognise from the 90s go and live on the astronaut, bicker amusingly, and get into wacky scrapes before Bruce nobly sacrifices himself to drill a hole.

Trivia

Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis hit it off so much while making the movie they got married and had a baby together

The asteroid featured in the movie still exists. It is currently on the other side of the moon and is expected to start a return trajectory in 2031 and will crash into earth killing everyone in around 2082

The story is loosely based on Thomas Hardy’s Mayor of Casterbridge

The scenes of the astronauts on the surface of the asteroid were actually filmed in Hull city centre, with the asteroid landscape added later using CGI

Bloopers

Whilst Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler have a romantic moment before Ben leaves, someone can be heard in the background going to the toilet.
