EA have announced that the stars that will feature on the cover of FIFA 20 will eighties rapper MC Hammer on the standard edition, legendary scientist Marie Curie on the Champions Edition and caped crusader Batman on the Ultimate Edition.
The announcement has taken the industry by surprise as the three stars, whilst undeniably iconic, were not known for their footballing skills.
Although, it is understood that, alongside her pioneering work on radiation, Ms Curie was a promising wing-back with a powerful left foot.
“I think that it was time to shake things up a bit,” explained EA representative Stewart James.
“We wanted to really broaden the demographic of who FIFA can appeal to.
“In the past, you may well have been a fan of eighties rap and big trousers and looked at a FIFA cover featuring Ronaldo and thought it wasn’t for you.
“Now, if you see MC Hammer, you might decide to give the game a try.”
Mr Stewart also revealed that the characters would be available as ultra-rare cards in the popular FIFA Ultimate Team mode.
“That’s right, MC Hammer will boost your squad’s rapping ability points, Marie Curie will boost Squad chemistry and Batman will give your team stealth ability when playing at night as well as a minor crime-busting boost.”
Whilst the decision to not feature football stars on a FIFA game is certainly a shock, it is not the first time EA has done so, with FIFA 2012 featuring woodland creatures and FIFA 07 featuring a nice stately home.
