The new trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Little Women has been released and has caused controversy for featuring what appears to be average-sized women.
“Emma Watson is my height!” exclaimed Little Women fan Laura Curtis.
“I mean, they all are, these are meant to be little women. How’s that going to work? – ‘hey, you see those little women?’ ‘What little women?’ ‘The ones who all look about the same height as everyone else.’
“The whole thing has got no credibility.”
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women is not the first adaptation of the classic story, with other films all starring similarly sized women.
“Yes, but this is 2019,” argued Curtis.
“Special effects are so much more advanced now. I mean, we had Ant-man the other year. If you can use special effects to shrink a man down to sub-atomic size, then you can make the women of Little Women little.”
Ms Curtis has laid the blame for the problematic casting firmly at the feet of director Gerwig.
“She was a great actor and everything, but I don’t think directing is for her,” continued an exasperated Curits.
“I mean, look that that first film of hers – Lady Bird – didn’t feature any ladybirds at all.”
“Rubbish.”
