Family-friendly remake of Salo: 120 Days of Sodom to bring story to wider audience

Pier Palo Pasolini’s 1975’s classic Salo: 120 Days of Sodom is to get a new Hollywood remake that will bring the Marquis de Sade’s classic story to a wider, family audience.

The original film featured lots of Italians beating each other up, having sex, and going to the toilet on each other – it is considered a classic because there are subtitles.

“Okay, so, Salo, everyone loves Salo, right? Torture, sex, and fascism? Great fun,” explained remake producer Stewart James.

“But the problem is that people are a little put off by the sexual and psychological abuse, so our new version will take all of that out, and instead we’re just left with a bunch of kids in a big castle ruled over by some corrupt leaders. So, I’m thinking that Salo, without the really unpleasant stuff, is basically The Hunger Games.

“The fascists- well, actually, let’s not say fascists, let’s just say they’re rich business men. So, the businessmen kidnap the kids and make them fight each other, and the kids then have to escape. No one goes to the bathroom on anyone else or is burnt to death and instead we’ve got a nice story of kids defying corrupt authority.”

“We’ll drag the whole thing out for four or five films and get, you know, someone like Jeff Goldblum as one of the businessmen and Millie Bobby Brown as one of the kids, and we could really bring Salo: 120 Days of Sodom to a much wider audience. Something that, I think, Pasolini would have been very happy about.”
