The debut of Disney+ is the US has seen it confirmed that the new streaming channel will not feature 1932’s controversial cartoon Nazi Overlords are our Friends.
It had been suspected the at the cartoon would not make an appearance after it was confirmed that 1946’s slaves-having-a-lovely-time-working-on-the-plantation animated classic Song of the South would not feature.
Nazi Overlords are our Friends was made in anticipation of the Nazi regime in Germany going on to become the dominant ideology of the late 20th century.
It features Donald Duck being prevented from breeding as he has a serious speech impediment that could be passed to his ducklings.
Donald is then sent to a camp where ‘he can be more useful to society.’
Mickey Mouse then gives a brief overview of the benefits of eugenics, and then everyone sings a nice song about Nazi Supermen.
“It hasn’t really aged well,” explained film historian Kelly Grace.
“It was only shown a handful of times before Walt realised that the Nazi ideology would not last and moved on to the greatest passion in his life – a decade-long persecution of friends and colleagues in the industry for suspected communism.
“Still though, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is a lovely film isn’t it?”
